Dear brothers and sisters,
The Lord calls us to "grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 3:18) Every pulse, each tick of the clock reminds us that our earthly time is preparation for eternity. The passing of one year to the next is prime real estate for self examination. The following questions are patterned after Dr. Joseph Pipa's spiritual inventory. Think through these in your times before the Lord. Talk about them at meal times, vacations, family gatherings, or casual meetings. "Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name." (Malachi 3:16) These are also the sorts of discussions we would have together in pastoral visits.
I look with anticipation to 2015 with you. May we all "grow in grace," may the Lord make us "abound in love one toward another, and toward all men" (1 Thessalonians 3:12), may we be gripped by the Bible, filled with the Holy Spirit, and driven by passion for souls. "Let the whole earth be filled with his glory." (Psalm 72:19)
